Neologic synagogue. Following an international competition, the world-renowned architect Professor Peter Behrens realized the construction of the Neologic Synagogue. It was this building that put Žilina on the world map of the history of modern architecture. The building is realized on an irregular plan of the plot in a slight slope. The architect solved the concept brilliantly. On a massive stone base, reminiscent of medieval fortress architecture, he placed a central cubic mass topped by a dominant dome, 16 metres in diameter and 17.6 metres high. The painting of the Star of David in the dome is one of the most impressive parts of the work. The Neolog synagogue underwent an extensive renovation between 2011 and 2017, which restored it to its original beauty. Today it is an important cultural institution.
