For the needs of the Hungarian Royal State Real School, a new building was built between 1910 and 1912 according to the designs of the Budapest architects Emil Somló and Ambrus Orth. It was in the style of the so-called Hungarian Art Nouveau. The author of the reliefs with the allegory of education on the entrance portal is the sculptor Géza Maróti. In 1960, the University of Transport, now the University of Žilina, was moved from Prague to Žilina. The historic building has retained many of its original architectural features. The exterior of the building has retained its original colour scheme in pink tones. Currently the building is empty, the classrooms and the EDIS Publishing House, which was housed here, have moved to the University of Žilina campus on Veľký diel.
