11 Town hall

Town Hall. The Town Hall building is a continuation of the original building, which was destroyed during the great fire of 1886. It was built in 1890 on an older Gothic foundation. Originally the so-called Pollak House was first mentioned in 1479 as the residence of the Žilina richtár - bailiff - Petr Pollák. The building became the property of the town in 1509. It is said that there was a bell on the tower of the town hall, which was rung whenever a condemned man was led to the gallows on Šibeničný hill. In addition to the seat of the town administration, the building also housed a room for the night watch, a prison and an archive. The last renovations in 1992 and 1993 gave the town hall its present appearance. There are representative rooms here.
