Benches in Dolna Štubna. Dolná Štubňa is a municipal part of Turčianske Teplice, which was an independent municipality until 1971. The first written mention of it dates back to 1281, when it was mentioned under the name "Villa Kosmas" (Kozm's village). In 1437, the name 'Stubna' appears, which probably comes from the name of the first owner and founder of the village, Kozmas, or from the German word 'stuben' (cottage). In the 14th century, German colonists came here and from the 15th century the village belonged to the Hájský family, and later, from 1532 to 1848, to the town of Kremnica. Dolná Štubňa was also a toll village from the 15th century, where tolls were collected until 1722. The local inhabitants were engaged in agriculture, forestry and work as railway workers. In front of the local Coop Jednota shop, visitors will be attracted by an unusual wooden bench with a carved head of an unidentified creature. This original and slightly bizarre element enlivens the space and gives it a unique atmosphere. A few metres away, in a nearby park, we find other benches, simple but tasteful. The little park is small, but nicely landscaped and maintained, offering a pleasant place to relax. From its space there is an excellent view of an interesting set of historical buildings situated behind the road, above the Žarnovica stream. The first written references to these buildings date back to the 16th century. In 1569, Matej Holeš, a local miller and sawyer, informed the town of Kremnica about the economic conditions of the sawmill and mill in the area. It is assumed that the mill and sawmill had been operating here for a long time. These facilities have served their purpose for centuries. They were in full operation until 1953, when they were run by the miller and sawmiller Rudolf Žiak. The Žiak family had been working in this facility since 1932. The preserved property still houses almost intact and well-preserved milling technology such as the mill's cylindrical millstones, the Francis turbine, the water trough, as well as the original sawmill, the gater and the hydroelectric power station, which are reminders of the history and traditional crafts of the area.
