Benches in Blatnicka valley. The karst Blatnická valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in Slovakia. It is located in the Turiec region, on the western side of the Veľká Fatra Mountains. The valley stretches in an east-west direction and is approximately eight kilometres long. Its canyon-like shape is flanked on both sides by limestone and dolomite rock formations. The banks and steep walls are overgrown with limestone beech trees. Combined with the blue sky, they create a magnificent natural scenery. This beauty is matched by the many giant burdock trees that grow along the white gravel road leading through the valley. Several species of wild orchids can also be found here during the flowering season. The rare and protected carnivorous plant, the common penguin, also thrives in some places. The whole valley looks like a living botanical garden. From the village of Blatnica, a green marked hiking trail leads through the valley to the King's Well, which is located on the ridge of Veľká Fatra. After about a fifty-minute walk from Blatnica, you will find a pleasant resting place by the Blatnicka stream. There is a long wooden bench and a shelter with two benches and a table in the middle. There is also a well with crystal clear, tasty water from Veľká Fatra. After a short rest you can continue on. In a few minutes you will come to the most attractive part of the whole valley - a massive rock cliff with a rock window and towers towering high up. This natural formation resembles a castle, surrounded by rock walls as walls. There are several places in the Blatnická valley where the road passes through narrow spaces between the rocks, but this is one of the most impressive. The quiet and peaceful valley with its abundance of natural beauty is a real balm for the soul.
