34 Trávnička's house

In 1931, Oldřich Trávniček, a merchant, publisher, bookseller and disseminator of Slovak children's literature, had a two-storey house with commercial premises on the ground floor built. The land on which he built the house belonged to the family of the owner of the Grand Bio Universum cinema, Rufinus Stejskal, with whom the house is adjacent. The building was designed by the architect Michal Maximilián Scheer. The corner house of prismatic volume has the front part of the parterre lightened by columns. Here there were shops behind large glass shop fronts. Interestingly, at the request of the city, Trávniček set his building back from the rear of the lot so as to preserve the building line of the street. In the yard of the house were the publisher's workshops and warehouses. The building stands out for its austerity and functionality with some of the original interior.
