68 Craftsman's house

The Craftsman House is an Art Nouveau building with two side turrets built between 1909 and 1910. The building originally bore the inscription "Gabriel Baross' Craftsman's House". Count Gabriel Baross was the Hungarian Minister of Public Works and Transport and was instrumental in the development of railway transport in Hungary and its modernisation. In Žilina he was instrumental in the establishment of a cloth factory. There is a statue of him on the facade of the building and on the sides under the towers there are two reliefs with 17 figures depicting different crafts, such as blacksmith, miller, millwright, tailor, etc. The building was a centre of crafts and trade. In 1925 it became the seat of the Trades Community. The building later housed several Žilina schools. Nowadays, the building has been renovated and is privately owned.
