The building of the former Tatra Bank

In the second half of the nineteenth century, Tatra banka was founded, which became the most important bank in Hungary at that time. Its main objective was to accept deposits and provide loans on more favourable terms than its competitors. Not surprisingly, such an institution needed truly representative premises. This is how this magnificent building, which is one of the most beautiful monuments in Martin, came into being. Another important event in Slovak history is also connected with its history - it was here that the Declaration of the Slovak Nation was adopted, which is one of the most important documents in Slovak history.
