Memorandum Square

Martin

Listen to the guide

A small square that carries a great message of Slovak history. It was here, under the linden trees, that the Memorandum Assembly of the Slovak nation took place in June 1861. About six thousand people came here and signed an important Slovak document - the Memorandum of the Slovak Nation. The Slovaks here demanded that the equality of their nation in the then Hungary be guaranteed by law. When visiting the square, you can see the Evangelical church and the rectory building in addition to the memorial sculpture that commemorates this important event.
