Listen to the guide

Permission to build a church was granted to the townspeople in November 1783 and the following November the predecessor of the present church, a simple building without a tower, was already standing. This was built later, first wooden and later brick. A comprehensive reconstruction took place in the 19th century. The exterior of the church was given a uniform appearance in the Neo-Romanesque style. In 1861, a meeting of the Slovak nation was held in the area in front of the church, where an important final document, the Memorandum of the Slovak Nation, was signed, which demanded that the equality of the Slovak nation in Hungary be ensured by law.
