The most visited places in Martin traditionally include the National Cemetery, in addition to the Slovak Matrix and the Slovak National Museum. It was founded at the end of the 18th century as a municipal cemetery, where both Protestants and Catholics were buried. Today, several important personalities are buried here. In 1967 it was declared a national cultural monument.
