Banská Bystrica

Listen to the guide

The clock tower is the most visible and most famous landmark of the main square in Banská Bystrica. Its construction began in 1552. Later it was rebuilt several times until its present form, which dates back to 1761. The tower on the square served not only as a carrier of the town clock, but also as a watchtower. Today, it is open to visitors and from its observation deck there is a magnificent view of the square as well as the beautiful countryside.
